Happy Mother's Day....A Day Early

It has been a busy day for me and on the exciting side.

When I opened my mailbox I found a package from my son and his wife. I am not much of an alcohol drinker but do enjoy munching on 1 or 2 of these on occasion:

I

I had a, "Jim Beam" after lunch and am looking foward to choosing a different type after dinner.

Here is my fav pic of my son and I.

We were both a whole lot younger than, our hair has grown out too.

Also, I just found out that I won a blog hop prize. Yeah, busy day here.

A couple of weeks ago I had an interview with the people who run the city pools to be a cashier at one of the pools. During my interview, no one seemed to care about my cash handling or customer experience, all they wanted to know about was my child care experience and what I would plan to entertain some children for the day.

Evidently some people in this town think it's ok to drop off children as young as 4 who cannot swim and the cashier becomes responsible for the child for the day. Feeding, sunscreening and keeping safe. HOWEVER, the pool rules state that there must be a guardian 18+ in the pool with the kids at all times.

I was totally upset when this interview was over, my "roomie" and I talked about it for a long time and almost every day since then 1 of us has brought the subject up. We can't understand why anyone would even THINK of dropping off a child who can't swim no matter what age or who would think of dropping off a child as young as 4 with complete and total strangers. You have no idea what things the kids might be allergic to and back were we come from if you even lay a finger on someone else's child for any reason at all, they can arrest you for assult.

So, as usual when something in this town makes me really mad or raises serious questions in my mind, I write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. My letters have been in there a few times. Today I received an email that this is not a letter to the editor but a story and a reporter will most likely be contacting me sometime soon.

Seriously, who doesn't know what's going on? The people who work at the pool? The people who do the interviewing? (1 of them had worked at the pool for more than 1 seasib and informed me that kids getting dropped off alone was a normal thing and happens quite often because the pool is the cheapest babysitter in town $1.50 for 4 hours) The people who make up the pool rules? And what about the people who run the city?

  1. wow! I am not surprised. we don't frequent the public pools here but the library is often a "babysitter" here In Cincinnati. I used to teach classes at the library and they always wanted me to teach children's classes to "entertain" the dozens that would hang out every day. I guess the public library (Cincy's has an extensive, award winning system) is the CHEAPEST here and it is open all year long so makes a great free after school program. Being a single mom for so many years, child care was always a concern but I would never leave my child anywhere without adult supervision! I am glad you called out this dangerous situation. A pool poses so many more problems than the library (at least they have books!) Good luck with your latest mission! Thanks for checking out my blog!
